How to Choose a Boudoir Photographer

So you’ve been thinking about having a session of your own and you want to make the best choice possible. I know how important this experience is for you and it’s my aim to make the process as easy as possible. I also tell people that I’d love for you to choose me as your photographer but if you don’t, just make sure you go to someone who knows what they’re doing. I want you to have the best experience so here are are few tips on how to choose the a boudoir photographer.

Make sure the photographer is full service

Boudoir is an intimate experience many women may do only once in their lifetime.  Select a photographer who will treat your photo session like the special occasion it is and who will take care of everything from hair and makeup to pose coaching to printing for you. You shouldn’t be left to figure out posing on your own or figure out where to safely print your intimate photographs. 

If the photographer you’re considering is not offering a full service experience or only offers digitals, you may want to consider a photographer who offers more.  When you have a photographer who handles all these services for you, you’ll know you’re getting the very best the industry has to offer.  

Consider their work closely  

Compare the images you see on their website to get a sense of their overall style and skill level.  Do they have diverse clientele that demonstrates their ability to provide hair and makeup services for all skin tones and hair types?  Do they know how to properly light both fair and deep skin tones? Do they pose both thin and curvy women beautifully and naturally?  Is the quality of their work consistent?  Paying close attention to these things will help you make the best decision when choosing a quality professional.

Experience  

Does this photographer specialize in boudoir or do they shoot everything under the sun from weddings to babies and boudoir?  For example, if you were having an issue with your heart, would you visit your general practitioner or a cardiologist?   With boudoir photography, it’s best to select a photographer who is passionate about giving you the best they’ve got and coupling it with their studied and practiced expertise in this genre.

Privacy  

Some photographers require you to allow them to share your photos for promotional or competition purposes.   Select a photographer that will respect your privacy.  You should have the final say if your photos will be shared or not and a true professional will respect whatever decision you make.

Know Who Will Be Present 

Find out if the photographer be working with an assistant. Know who will be present at your shoot to determine what you’ll be comfortable with on the day of the session.

Read Their Reviews 

Nothing tells the truth like others’ personal experiences with a photographer.  First make sure they have a web presence on Google, Facebook, Instagram, Yelp etc.  Check out their reviews on multiple web platforms to get a better sense of who they are and how they make their clients feel.

Choose someone who makes you feel comfortable

Meet or speak with the photographer before booking your session. You don’t make an investment like this often and it’s important to know you vibe well with the photographer and that you’ll have the best possible experience.
